Wednesday, 15 October 2014 10:07

Ben Heppner is the gentle giant of the Canadian music scene, an icon of Canadian Opera, and he is beloved for his incredible tenor.

Heppner will be joining the cast of the new production of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical TITANIC, and this news comes just months after he announced that he would retire from the Operatic stage.

Titanic opened on Broadway back in 1997 and went on to win five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It is the story of the “unsinkable” and massive boat that crashed into an iceberg on April 14, 1912 and eventually sunk. The majority of the people on board didn’t survive.

Heppner will play four roles in Titanic, including Isidor Straus, the creator of the Macy’s department store, who goes down with the ship. Look out for the duet Heppner performs with his onstage wife titled “Still,” it’s a beautiful piece.

Titanic opens in Toronto , starting May 20, 2015 at the Princess of Wales Theatre.
