The names are snappy and the services they provide are here to stay; Spotify, Songza and Rdio are the big names in streaming music. It’s simple, you sign-up, create a taste profile and away you go, music tailored to you, coming through your speakers. But is it really tailored to you? The knock on these streaming services has always been around the lack of  control that these services afford artists and the limited scope of the music that pops up in your “individualized” stream.

Out of Montreal, comes a new service called UpRise.FM. The service is slated for a 2015 launch. But don’t bunch it in with the current players on the music streaming scene, UpRise is different, different enough that musical icon and legend Daniel Lanois is investing his time and pouring his energy and expertise into the service.

Senior Arts Editor Garvia Bailey spoke with Heather Bambrick about UpRise.FM.
