The Artistry Of ... Marcus Miller:

Like so many of his generation, and before, his music is described as genre defying. Let’s agree that that’s an understood standard. How we all listen, experience, resonate, and reflect, is simply as sweetly eclectic as the worlds we live in. A badge of legendary status is well deserved. A two time Grammy winner he’s credited as the last primary collaborator with Miles Davis, on the album "Tutu". His own words about his music are beautiful. Expressions of influences behind his album Afrodeezia speak to how his artistry breathes: “My mind continues to be blown by the power of music to heal, to provide strength, to get people through unimaginable suffering. Afrodeezia was inspired by my role as a(n) UNESCO Artist For Peace and spokesperson for the Slave Route Project. I wanted to go back to the original source of the rhythms that make up our musical heritage of jazz, soul, rhythm and blues… from their beginnings in Africa, to different ports along the slave route…from Morocco and Nigeria, to Paris, Sao Paulo, across the Caribbean to Louisiana, and finally, to the urban cities of the north: Chicago, Detroit, New York.
