The Artistry Of ... Mike Downes

Wednesday, 08 March 2017 00:00

Every time I have seen Mike Downes perform he’s smiling. I think it’s because he loves making music. By making music I mean playing it and actually making it too.

He’s a composer bass player; a foundation builder. The music making seems effortless too and that feeling glides seamlessly around and between the music you hear him playing, the way he talks about the music he plays, and those he plays it with.

If you like what you hear and you get the chance tell an artist you liked it, do that to Mike. He’ll give you the time of day and genuinely appreciate what you had to say. That’s what a gentleman does. I think it starts with a smile. He loves making music. That is the artistry.
