Music Memory - Holly Nimmons

Music Memory is sponsored by the Alzheimer Society of Toronto, offering the "Music For Memory Project":  a program based on the effects of music and stimulation on people with dementia, by providing them with iPods containing personalized music. For more information, visit alz.to.

This week music education advocate and daughter of the amazing Phil Nimmons, Holly Nimmons, shares an early memory.

I can’t fully remember all the details, but I know I have music memories from when I was a newborn, in the bassinette while the band (Nimmons ‘n’ Nine) rehearsed in the same room!  As I grew up, I would fall asleep to (my Dad) Phil noodling about on the piano as a composition took its form.  When I would eventually go to concerts, I would often say “I’ve heard this before!”

Then there were the parties in our living room with Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, etc.  I know this is probably not the norm, but these were great memories for me!
