This week we hear from Walter Venafro, host of Saturday Afternoon Jazz.

"I’ve been blessed with many Music Memories…I’ll share one that goes back to the mid 90’s. Having an interest in foreign films, word was getting out about a film called Il Postino/ The Postman. A film about a simple Italian postman learning to love poetry while delivering mail to the exiled Cuban poet Pablo Neruda. He soon becomes a student of the poet and learns to use his new found talent to attract a local beauty on a tiny island.

The theme music, composed by Luis Bacalov, resonated with me deeply. It also happened to win an Academy Award for Best Original Score…and rightly so.. I was struck by its emotive nature. The perfectly chosen instrumentation of accordion, clarinet piano and strings that successfully elicited hope, sadness and love. The bitter-sweetness of life!"
