Music Memory is sponsored by the Alzheimer Society of Toronto, offering the "Music For Memory Project":  a program based on the effects of music and stimulation on people with dementia, by providing them with iPods containing personalized music. For more information, visit

This week we hear from a national cultural leader, Jeff Melanson CEO of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

"When I was in high school, I was very fortunate to travel to France on a high school trip. On one of our stops, we entered an old cathedral in Amiens.

The church features extraordinary stained glass and wonderful architecture. On this particular day, there was a choir visiting and I entered the church to the incredible sound of these beautiful voices in a magnificent acoustic.

I had never heard music like that before and it was as if, in that moment, music reached inside my soul and chose me. I have been fully captivated and engrossed by music ever since. My wish is that everyone gets touched by music in some way, shape or form in their life time. That moment changed my life and that opportunity inspires me to find ways to bring others to new artistic experiences throughout my career."

Thank you to all of you who contributed during our Early Spring Campaign.
