This Music Memory comes from Saidah Baba Talibah is a gifted musician. Her latest album is called (S)Cream. Saidah learned about music from her talented family. Her mom is Salome Bey,  her uncle the jazz vocalist Any Bey.

I remember meeting this gentleman, Kirk, he was in town doing the play "Five Guys Named Moe" at The Royal Alex, We'd started hanging out and sharing music with one another.  I had access to lots of music in my house but I'd only listen to a small handful of albums over and over again.  I remember loving "You Are My Heaven" sung by Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack, But it wasn't until  Kirk  played me "A Song For You," that I really heard and fell in love with Donny Hathaway.  hearing the pain, warmth, emotion, intimacy in his voice and then realizing at that moment that this man singing "...and when my life is over, remember we were together, we were alone and I was singing this song for you,"  that he was no longer on this earth.  Oh man, I cried for the entire time that I heard that song, because I felt like he was singing to me.  That moment, taught me a lot about the art of storytelling, singing with vulnerability and truth, laying it all on the line.
