First Listen: Elizabeth Shepherd - The Signal

Elizabeth Shepherd has just released her latest body of work entitled The Signal. With four critically acclaimed albums to her name, Juno nominations and the respect of musicians and fans around the globe, this time, Shepherd continues to explore her compositional skills with an album full of originals and invites the occasional guest like guitarist Lionel Loueke in to expand her collaborative skills.  A strong, funky, sublime rhythm exudes from its 11 tracks that help stretch the idea of jazz just a little bit further.

First Listen: The Breithaupt Brothers - Just Passing Through

Today’s first listen belongs to the modern songwriting duo of Jeff and Don Breithaupt, otherwise known as the Breithaupt Brothers. 

They are about to release their Songbook Volume 2 collection, Just Passing Through on September 30th and they have pulled together some incredible voices to realize their craft, the art of the song.

First Listen: Dr. John - Ske Dat de Dat

Dr. John is an American icon with deep roots in the New Orleans musical legacy.  With six Grammy awards and a place in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame, he knows where music and for that matter, Jazz’s heritage lies and with deep respect he has put together an amazing tribute to one of his own idols, Louis Armstrong.  With Ske Dat de Dat: the Spirit of Satchmo which arrives in the world on August 19th, he has pulled together an all star group of rooted souls to add to his salute in Bonnie Raitt, Terence Blanchard, Nicholas Payton and Arturo Sandoval among others.

First Listen: Kat Edmonson - The Big Picture

The name Kat Edmonson should be familiar to you, we’ve been playing tracks from her first 2 albums Take to the Sky and Way Down Low for the last couple of years.  Out of Texas, Edmonson has had no formal training, a brief American Idol moment, and has strutted her precocious phrasing in coffee houses and festivals while also touring and recording alongside musical companion Lyle Lovett, gaining a strong fan base all along the way.
