First Listen - It's Been a Long Long Time

Tuesday, 11 September 2012 15:45

Every Friday, Brad Barker goes through the pile of CD’s on his desk and his hard drive to find a brand new song to play for you.  It’s called your “First Listen”

This week it belonged to Thank You Les, A Tribute to Les Paul by Lous Pallo of Les Paul’s Trio.

Les Pauls’ influence was worldwide and all encompassing for many a guitar fan, music fan and music maker.

Les Paul trio guitarist Lou Pallo ( who played with Les for more than 40 years) gathered a varied and eclectic cast of characters together recently to pay tribute with a full bodied list of jazz and blues standards. 21 tracks of ooey gooey sentimental goodness. Everyone from Jose Feliciano, Frank Vignola, John and Bucky Pizzarelli, to Slash and Steve Miller.

As Miller writes in the liner notes: So this album is a tribute to Les Paul, truly one of the most enjoyable and creative musicians to ever live.  It’s a heartfelt thank you from just a few of his many friends for his wonderful music, inspiration and friendship.

And the heart is definitely felt on this record, it could not be more real in sound and emotion.

"Thank You Les" the recording and feature length documentary (CD/DVD) is set for release on September 11th.

Our chosen track has Keith Richards taking a Bing Crosby approach to its spirit.

Your first listen this week is “It’s Been a Long Long Time” with Keith Richards and Lou Pallo, from "Thank You Les."
