Friday, 23 October 2015 15:13

Mark Promane has released a album which is his take on Oscar Peterson’s Canadiana Suite.

Canadiana Suite is Oscar Peterson’s best-known work. Composed in 1963, it is a collection of eight compositions that moves its listeners across the Canadian landscape on a conceptual railway journey, starting in the Maritimes.

Mark Promane is known as a versatile saxophonist, woodwind doubler, arranger, composer, conductor and clinician. He is the head of the woodwind department at Humber College in Toronto.

This album features Mark playing multiple flutes, clarinets and saxophones on his own arrangements of Oscar's classic album. Seven mixed woodwind parts and rhythm form the accompaniment for saxophone solo features. Ted Quinlan, Mike Downes and Mark Kelso round out the rest of the group.

Mark Promane Woodwind Chamber Ensemble and Wheatland from Canadiana Suite is your First Listen for October 22.
