Diana Krall goes it alone at jazz fest concerts


Diana Krall will perform at the Montreal International Jazz Festival on June 26, 27 and 28, organizers announced February 9th.

In what the festival is promoting as a world premiere, the singer and pianist will perform all three shows entirely solo. The concerts, which start at 6 p.m., will take place in the relatively intimate Theatre Maisonneuve of Place des Arts. The last time Krall appeared at the festival, in 2004, she was at the Bell Centre.

Sony Reissues Six Vintage CTI Jazz Titles

ImageIconic jazz label releases albums from Jim Hall, Ron Carter, Deodato, George Benson, Milt Jackson and Paul Desmond.

The iconic record label CTI, noted for its slick cover photography, gatefold albums and 70s sound, recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary. The label has long since left the control of its founder, Creed Taylor, and is now owned and managed by Sony, who kicked off the anniversary celebration in the fall of 2010 with the release of CTI: The Cool Revolution 4-CD box set and California Concert: The Hollywood Palladium 2-CD set. Now they’re getting down to the business of reissuing all those great albums from the storied catalogue.

Canadian woman first ever to receive Master's degree in Beatles

A Canadian woman has become the first person in the world to graduate with a Master's degree in Beatles studies.

Former Miss Canada finalist, Mary-Lu Zahalan-Kennedy was one of the first 12 students to sign up for the Liverpool Hope University course on the Fab Four when it began in 2009 and was the first to graduate, the university said on Wednesday.
