Twilight Jazz Series - Sax in the City Bryan Covey Quartet

DPLU Music, the TD Niagara Jazz Festival and Mahtay Café and Lounge present the FIRST concert in the Twilight Jazz Series. Don't miss our March feature: SAX IN THE CITY with the BRYAN COVEY QUARTET Bryan Covey Quartet Bryan Covey - sax Peter Shea - Piano (thanks Peter!) Jesse Turton - Bass Adam Bowman - Drums Bryan Covey comes from a family with a rich musical heritage, where his father is a jazz bass player and his grandfather was an accomplished trumpet player. Bryan grew up in a little town outside of Detroit called Windsor. From an early age, he was immersed in Detroit's rich musical life and was exposed to jazz. He began playing the saxophone at the age of 13. While in high school in Windsor, he had his own jazz fusion band, performed on flute with the International Youth Symphony and was a regular guest sitting in on saxophone with renowned Detroit area jazz artists. Bryan has performed on flutes, clarinets, saxophones and other wind instruments in just about every musical genre: orchestras, musicals, with Joan Rivers, Franky Valli, Della Reese, Mickey Rooney, and a variety of jazz, rock, funk, pop, country, Italian, Irish, and Middle Eastern music ensembles. This concert will feature music from some the the world’s most famous sax players, such as: Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, David Bowie, Dexter Gordon, Norah Jones, Eddie Harris, Marcus Miller, and Detroit alumni, Kenny Garrett. “Sax in the City” with only music written by people who play (or played) saxophone.
