Bandleader Bob Florence Dies at 75

Grammy Award-winning bandleader and music arranger Bob Florence died May 15 of pneumonia at Barlow Respiratory Hospital in Los Angeles. He was 75, and lived in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

He began studying piano at age five, and had initially intended to be a concert pianist, though he eventually moved towards jazz. By the mid-1950s he had formed his own big band, and won a Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album in 2000.
