Wednesday, 22 March 2017 10:58

A Thelonious Monk centennial tribute album is on its way out, with music from a Les liaisons dangereuses - a French Film by Robert Vadim.

The music was recorded in 1959, and has not been available outside of the film - which is no longer being sold.

According to  WBGO, "It’s a soundtrack, but it’s also a studio album,” said Zev Feldman , who co-produced this new release. “Because of the quality of the material ... I even think of it in some ways as a studio album first. This is Monk in his prime, in a really important era, and it’s apparent that he was still evolving.”

Thelonious Monk: Les liaisons dangereuses 1960 will be available on Record Store Day as a 2-LP set, April 22, and the two-disc version out on May 19.
