Oscar nominations out!

The list of the 2016 Oscar nominations have been announced, and The Revenant is leading the way with 12 nods in total, including Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Supporting Actor (Tom Hardy), Best Director (Alejandro González Iñárritu) and Best Picture. 

Other films that received nods for Best Picture are: Room, The Big Short, Spotlight, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, Brooklyn, and Bridge of Spies.

In the Documentary category, Liz Garbus's What Happened, Miss Simone is up for an award. The film is a biopic surrounding the life of Nina Simone - who, in addition to being a recording artist, was a civil rights activist. This is the second Academy Award nomination for Liz Garbus.

As for the music, up for Original Score are: Bridge of Spies (Thomas Newman), Carol (Carter Burwell), Sicario (Jóhann Jóhannsson), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (John Williams), The Hateful Eight (Ennio Morricone).

For Best Original Song: "Earned It" from Fifty Shades of Grey (Music and Lyric by Abel Tesfaye, Ahmad Balshe, Jason Daheala Quenneville and Stephan Moccio), "Mantra Ray" from Racing Extinction (Music by J. Ralph; Lyric by Antony Hegarty), "Simple Song #3" from Youth (Music and Lyric by David Lang), ""Til It Happens To You" from Hunting Ground (Music and Lyric by Diane Warren and Lady Gaga), and "Writing's on the Wall" from Spectre (Music and Lyric by Jimmy Napes and Sam Smith).
