Wagner Pembe

Wagner Pierre Pembe is a Canadian keyboardist, composer, bandleader and producer. Born in Kinshasa, Congo and raised in Toronto, Canada he is self-taught and has been playing piano since the age of 5.

As a boy Wagner's first introduction to music was at home through his family singing traditional hymns, folk Congolese songs and African spirituals. At the age of 6 he began accompanying his local church choir in which he played piano and organ during services and seasonal concerts.

His musical influences and inspirations range from Hip-Hop and Classical, to Jazz and Rock. He greatly values the piano playing of Thelonious Monk and Joe Zawinul and cites them as his earliest influences.

Wagner is currently in his fourth year of pursuing a bachelor of fine arts in music. Focusing on jazz performance and composition, Wagner studies piano under Richard Whiteman and has studied in ensembles lead by some of Toronto's finest jazz artists; such as : Lorne Lofski, Mark Eisneman, Kelly Jefferson, Jim Vivian, Anthony Michelli and Barry Elmes.
He currently works as the  producer, composer and bandleader of the Toronto based hiphop/jazz fusion band Xoana, and in 2017 the group released their first self titled released, Xoana Vol.1.
