It’s Monday and that means Senior Arts Editor Mark Wigmore shares his top picks for your arts and entertainment week ahead.

BRAVO NIAGARA! AN INTIMATE LOOK AT ‘OSCAR, WITH LOVE’

It’s a jazz lover’s event in Niagara on the Lake this week. 2017 is turning out to be another dazzling year for Oscar Peterson fans around the globe. A fresh set of concerts and galas have been announced that feature some of the most accomplished musicians on the planet. Festivities get underway Friday night with The Bravo Niagara Festival of the Arts presentation of the Oscar With Love concert and film screening. Mark Wigmore spoke to Kelly Peterson about the event last month.

The event features a screening of the documentary ‘Oscar Peterson: Keeping the Groove Alive’, a wine and cheese reception, and a performance from Robi Botos and Dave Young. Mark Wigmore will moderate a Q&A on stage with Kelly and Celine Peterson following the film screening. It all takes place at the Shaw Festival theatre. Info at BravoNiagara.org.

    THE FOUNDER

Michael Keaton is back on the big screen and you can get some fries with this one. ‘The Founder’ tells the tale of Ray Kroc, the down on his luck milkshake mixer salesman who discovers what the McDonalds boys are up to in California with their fast service and quality burgers. Ray pushes hard to franchise.

‘The Founder’ is full of satisfying on-screen process – from watching the McDonalds speedy system in its infancy, to the dizzying persistence that helps to build a franchise empire. The film is funny, inventive and a plain examination of the foibles within the American Dream. The movie also enjoys a pitch perfect cast; Michael Keaton likely being under-served as an award season contender due to this film getting a January release. If nothing else, you will learn something about the fast food behemoth that sits on so many of our street corners. ‘The Founder’ is in theatres now.

    WINTERLICIOUS
