It’s Friday and that means Senior Arts Editor Mark Wigmore shares his top arts and entertainment picks for your weekend ahead.

    HUGH’S ROOM: JANE SIBERRY

Jane Siberry returns to Hugh’s Room this weekend after a sold out performance just weeks ago. This Sunday evening, Jane will be focusing on her new recording “Angels Bend Closer” but also sprinkling in her signature holiday numbers, which are a special treat from lovers of winter rarities.

There’s very limited table seating, and standing room tickets available. This is the second of what is sure to be two sold out shows. Click here for info.

    SOULPEPPER: IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE

Old time radio fans are going to get a kick out of Soulpepper’s take on “It’s A Wonderful Life. In this production, Capra’s holiday classic is reimagined as a 1940s live radio broadcast. The idea for this stage show was conceived in 2000 and was produced by Canadian Stage in 2008. This type of storytelling is a curiosity on stage, but it works. Soulpepper is using the same space as its producer predecessors – The Bluma Appel Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre.

Of course this is the beloved story of George Bailey and the intervention of his guardian angel one fateful Christmas Eve. Click here for tickets to It’s A Wonderful life. Select performances will feature appearances from local school choirs too.

THE JAZZ BISTRO: ROBI BOTOS AND HILARIO DURAN

It’s the return of a super duo at the Bistro this Saturday night; a tradition that began last year. Robi Botos and Hilario Duran will once again pair up at the Jazz Bistro. Robi’s on the Yamaha, Hilario on the Steinway.

Robi spoke to Community Arts Report Shirley Camia about the gig earlier this week.

Expect jazz standards and Christmas classics. Click here for more information. The show gets underway at 9 p.m.
