Aimia/AGO Photography Prize

The Aimia/AGO Photography Prize is a $50,000 prize that four finalists are competing for, and one of them is Canadian. It is one of the most exciting and interactive prizes being handed out in this country.

Aimia is the international loyalty rewards company that is responsible for companies like Aeroplan, and they have been working with the Art Gallery of Ontario for some time on this event. What was important to everyone involved was to push art in a direction that was accessible to a lot of people. So it’s you who get to award this prize.

The finalists are:

•       David Hartt (Canada);
•       Elad Lassry (Israel/USA);
•       Nandipha Mntambo (South Africa); and
•       Lisa Oppenheim (USA).

Each one of these artists is excelling at their craft, pushing boundaries and very in the moment of modern photography. They were narrowed down out a pool that included about 20 photographers. All of the photogs will earn a paid residency here in Canada, and there is a scholarship component for younger photo students as well.

Now there are a couple of ways to see the work from the 2014 finalists:

1)    You can go to the AGO and see the work. Vote there.

2)    You can go to the website.

3)    You can also keep an eye out for the Aimia photo prize truck. It shows up to events in the city and you can look around, use one of the iPads in the truck to vote.

Vote for these fantastic artists though October 27th, and the award will be announced on the 29th.
