The Artistry of ... Charnett Moffett

The Artistry of ... Charnett Moffett

His was a family history of music exposure that was second to none.  To
quote from his bio, “…His father, Charles was the drummer for the late
great Ornette Coleman, which led to Charnett being raised among jazz
royalty and being exposed to adventurous musical sounds…”  This richness
of musical connections continued after his childhood. His name is the mix
of his father’s and Ornette Coleman’s. Coleman was a mentor to the bass
player.  Charnett  later played with the Wynton Marsalis Quintet, and this
propelled him onwards into opportunities with some of the jazz world’s
superstars including Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner, Gillespie, Herbie Hancock,
Dianne Reeves, Sandoval, and Melody Gardot to name just a very few from an
extensive impressive list.  It is his adventurous bass playing that
enraptures his audiences; intoxicating solos and an artistry built on the
shoulders of so many jazz giants.
