The Artistry of ... Cyrus Chestnut

There is a beautiful quote that greets you on the home page of Cyrus Chestnut’s website that speaks directly to what defines his artistry.

"I like to construct melodies that tell stories, based on what I've seen, what I feel and what I hear,…If I can connect to what I'm playing, then I'll be able to share it. That's why you may think that some of what I do seems simple, but when you get into it, it's not as simple as you think."

As was the case for so many music artists, music was part of the fabric of the family home. Cyrus’s father was organist for the local church in their hometown of Baltimore. Gospel and jazz records were prominent in the collection at home. From the influence there is a beautiful vein of spirituality that runs through the way he shares his music.
