The Artistry of... Marcus Roberts

Marcus Roberts lost his site when he was five in 1968. He has so much appreciation, love and respect for his parents, especially his mother... also blind. He speaks of his parents intolerance of self-pity and credits them with the embracing of problems to find solutions … this attracted him to jazz. The music has always made him feel better—more confident—and it put him in touch with great musicians who also overcame a legacy of adversities: Ella Fitzgerald, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington & Louis Armstrong among others…

I had the privilege of seeing him perform up close and personal in a live to air performance here at JazzFM91with his trio and guest Ron Westray…Roberts plays like he is on a mission to always make it feel and be so good. That is artistry in essence…
