My Three Would Be... Marg Wiegand

Every Week as part of Dani Elwell's "Sunday Afternoon Jazz," Dani asks notable personalities from all walks of life what their top three jazz tunes are.

Every once in a while Dani opens "My Three Would Be..." up for the listeners, giving you a chance to chime in with your three top jazz tunes. We love to know what our listeners are listening to and we hope that you do as well!

This week, we open up our email to find listener Marg Wiegand from Peterborough.  She writes,

“It would be much easier to tell you what I don't like in jazz. It's so difficult to pick 3 favourites.
Here are 3 that I never tire of.  No matter how often I hear them, I stop to turn up the sound and listen intently.“

1. Take Five - Dave Brubeck : Time Out, 1959

2. Poinsiana - Ahmad Jamal: live at the Pershing Lounge, 1958

And finally she writes:

3. Over the Rainbow -  Melody Gardot : My One and Only Thrill, 2009

“From the first instant that Melody sets the beat, her arrangement of Over the Rainbow had me caught in her headlights, so to speak. With this song, hers is the only version I truly enjoy.  It's evident how important the "beat" is in my choices.  Music is powerful, it draws people together. Certainly she has drawn you and I into a lovely friendship Dani, and that's just one more reason to have it on my list of favourites."
