    Tuesday, 16 February 2016 00:00

Music Memory is sponsored by the Alzheimer Society of Toronto, offering the "Music For Memory Project": a program based on the effects of music and stimulation on people with dementia, by providing them with iPods containing personalized music. For more information, visit alz.to.

This week we hear from JAZZ.FM91's Fundraising Coordinator Amanda Roberts.

"My favorite music memory would have to be in Grade 4 when my mother introduced me to her favorite film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

A few weeks earlier, I overheard a boy in my class announce that his family just bought a VCR and that he was having the time of his life watching all his favourite movies. I knew I had to have one. I begged my mother for one and finally a few weeks later we got one. I sat too close to the TV and we watched what is now my favorite film of all time. I remember every song and every little detail but the one song that stuck out to me was "Pure Imagination" by Gene Wilder.  I always remembered how much I loved that scene.

At the end of my first week at JAZZ.FM91, I was listening to Afternoon Drive and heard for the first time in years a variation of the song. I immediately jumped out of my chair and ran to the on-air studio where I met Brad Barker. Excitedly, I introduced myself and shared my happy childhood memories of watching this movie over and over again with my cousin. It was such a great feeling to finish off my first week at JAZZ.FM91 and be reminded of a particular time in my life that brought me so much joy. "
