    Music Memory - Diana Panton

    Tuesday, 17 November 2015 11:31

Music Memory is sponsored by the Alzheimer Society of Toronto, offering the "Music For Memory Project": a program based on the effects of music and stimulation on people with dementia, by providing them with iPods containing personalized music. For more information, visit alz.to.

This week we hear from 2015 Juno award winning vocalist Diana Panton. Her Latest album is called I Believe in Little Things.

"Some children avoid bedtime and will do anything to stay up a little longer with the big kids, others go to sleep afraid that a monster lurks in the darkness. I, on the other hand, used to love bedtime, particularly in winter, as it was a chance to snuggle into flannel sheets, with a cat cozied up at my side and pull the string on the musical toy that hung from the headboard above my head. The toy was light pink (my favourite colour at the time, with the quintessential ballerina pictured on the front).

The melody didn't last long, but I fully believed that this little refrain that I would listen to each night before sleeping would bring me sweet dreams.

I didn't  know it at the time, but this melody of "Lullaby and Goodnight" was in fact Brahm's Lullaby. And that was my very first musical memory, and the inspiration for my latest album, I Believe in Little Things.
