First Listen: Jeremy Pelt - Face Forward, Jeremy

Once trumpet man Jeremy pelt put his educational successes at Berklee behind him and headed to New York City, he became a signature player on the scene.  Having played with the Mingus Big Band, the Roy Hargrove Big Band, Ravi Coltrane, Lewis Nash, the late Cedar Walton, Jeremy tours consistently, as a dedicated sideman or on his own with his current electric configuration.

Pelt caught the jazz bug in 10th grade when he heard a live recording of Miles Davis’s “So What”.  It was life changing.  Although he grew up on his mother’s Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday collection, it was Miles and his playing that inspired what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.

A consistent releaser of recorded material, Pelt’s new album Face Forward, Jeremy, is in some ways, a continuing story of his last record Water and Earth because of its players and its melodic, lush, even fusion like sound.

As Jeremy himself states, “what you’re listening to is really a result of us having lived in the music and played it and lent ourselves to it.”

For your First Listen, we’ve chosen the track “In My Grandfather’s Words”.
