First Listen: Pink Martini - Sway

Every Friday, Brad Barker goes through the pile of CD’s on his desk and his hard drive to find a brand new song to play for you.  It’s called your “First Listen”

They have labeled themselves, The Ambassadors of Happy! Pink Martini have just released their new album called Get Happy, it is their follow up to 2009′s Splendor in the Grass.

16 ambitious tracks in total with songs sung in German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and Charlie Chaplin’s always emotional ‘Smile’ with guest vocalist Phyllis Diller,  recorded in January of 2012 in her living room in Los Angeles, 6 months before she passed away.

Collaboration and a sense of discovery and of the world are the key to the Pink Martini sound.  Vocalist China Forbes remains and the smokey sounds of new co- lead singer Storm Large is brought in.  Rufus Wainwright joins them for another, famed Austrailian cabaret singer Meow Meow, the Von Trapp’s, this has its own community.

In an article with the Huffington Post where they wrote, ”If Breakfast at Tiffany's and the United Nations had a love-child, Pink Martini would be its name”  PM’S co-founder Thomas Lauderdale said, "I don't want the band to really be ironic. I feel what's required right now is an uplifting, hopeful, happy album."

Get Happy then!  and listen to new Pink Martini,  we’ve chosen the track “Sway”!
