First Listen: Manteca - Seeing Things

Every Friday, Brad Barker goes through the pile of CD’s on his desk and his hard drive to find a brand new song to play for you.  It’s called your “First Listen”

Out this week and most worthy of First Listen status is the new album from Manteca called,  “Monday Night at the Mensa Disco”, it is their 11th release.

Since first forming in the late seventies - from the Hollywood Bowl to the North Sea Jazz festival to the Monarch tavern a week or so ago - Manteca has comfortably been Canada’s calling card for wicked instrumental vibes. They are everything that one should want jazz to be. Collaborative, energized, moving forward…

As leader Matt Zimbel states, "We are driven by an intense desire to see the thrill in our audience's eyes. Show after show, it's the look in their eyes and the fact that we keep hearing people say the same thing after the show, 'wow, I wasn't expecting that!' Now that is remarkably motivating."

Mensa Disco was recorded over three days here in Toronto at Revolution Recording and funded overwhelming thru fans at indiegogo, Manteca have pulled together 7 strong originals… in fact Its hard to pick one track to focus on, however that’s the name of the game, today’s First Listen is "Seeing Things."
