Now Playing:

First Listen: Gavin Hope - But Beautiful

Every Friday, Brad Barker goes through the pile of CD’s on his desk and his hard drive to find a brand new song to play for you.  It’s called your “First Listen”

Today’s First Listen is from a man who appears to be able to do it all.  He can act, he can hold down the baritone spot in “the Nylons”, he can melt pop and soul standards like no other and now we has wrapped his luscious voice around some jazz standards that are wonderfully minimal and sparse. It's Gavin Hope!

Along with pianist arranger and producer Bill King, “For All We Know” is Gavin Hope’s fifth album and for the listener, there is air to breathe inside and outside of his voice.  And what a voice it is.

Tackling songs like Lizz Wright’s Salt, Georgia Rose from the early twenties, Moon River and My Foolish heart , Hope with strength, owns these songs.

The official CD release party for "For All We Know" is this Monday September 9th at the Jazz Bistro. a $20.00 entrance fee gets you a copy of the CD plus the performance.

For today’s First Listen, we’ve chosen his take on But Beautiful.

Gavin Hope, the new album is out next week and it's called "For All We Know."
