First Listen: John Scofield - Just Don't Want To Be Lonely

Every Friday, Brad Barker goes through the pile of CD’s on his desk and his hard drive to find a brand new song to play for you.  It’s called your “First Listen”

John Scofield returns with a new CD that returns him to a musical place he's visited before, let's call it Jam-band territory for lack of a more precise term.

Three previous recordings A Go Go, Bump and Uberjam put Scofield in new musical territory and in front of a new audience.

With Uberjam Deux, John reunites with guitarist Avi Bortnick and, on a bulk of the tunes, keyboardist John Medeski from Medeski, Martin and Wood.

There is a freshness to Scofield's playing when being supported by rhythm guitarist Avi Bortnick, an interplay and communication rarely heard.

John's last Three discs have showcased him in intimate settings (A Moment's Peace), large group (with 54) and gospel (with Piety Street). But, like the new record, the mark of any great artist is that John Scofield always sounds like John Scofield. An artist always searching and exploring and taking listeners along for the ride.

This weeks First Listen is Just Don't Want to Be Lonely from Uberjam Deux
