First Listen: Irma Thomas - May Ev’ry Day Be Christmas!

Every Friday, Brad Barker goes through the pile of CD’s on his desk and his hard drive to find a brand new song to play for you.  It’s called your “First Listen”

In the spirit of the season we bring you a festive First Listen for this week!

We all reach for the classics at this time of the year, and why not, they’re so good.  Well, Concord Music has released
Holiday Rules is an attempt to develop an albums’ worth of new takes on some of the classics for a new generation. Or as co-producer Sara Matarazzo states, ”This was a chance to create something that gave today’s artists a chance to put their mark on the tradition.”

On Holidays Rule you’ll hear everything from pop to folk to electronic as well as some gospel and soul. McCartney doing The Christmas Song to Rufus Wainwright and the Shins. A little something for everyone.

Our choice took the albums production crew to New Orleans and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band featuring the soul Queen of NOLA, Irma Thomas on vocals.

Your First Listen for this first week of December is the song "May Ev’ry Day Be Christmas!" Irma Thomas and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.  The collection? Holidays Rule!!!  Indeed!!!
