First Listen: Count Basie Orchestra - A Very Swingin’ Basie Christmas!

    Friday, 11 December 2015 15:33

    Written by Brad Barker

Founded in Kansas City in 1935, The Count Basie Orchestra celebrates its 80th anniversary with the release of its first Christmas album.

Currently under the direction of trumpeter Scotty Barnhart, this collection of Christmas tunes features the vocals of both Johnny Mathis and Ledisi and the piano playing on a few tunes from Ellis Marsalis.

These new arrangements bring to mind the great sounds of the classic Basie band and are perfect for the holidays.

"Jingle Bell"s is your First Listen for December 11.
