First Listen: The Cookers Quintet - Volume Two

The Cookers Quintet are a Toronto-based group with a sound firmly rooted in the ‘50s and ‘60s hard bop movement. Their name is inspired by the 1965 Blue Note recording “Night Of The Cookers," featuring Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan.

This is their second release called simply Vol.2 and this time features 3 vocal tunes w/ Leron Thomas/Johnny O’Neal/Dawn Pemberton.

The group is made up of Ryan Oliver (tenor sax), Tim Hamel (trumpet), Richard Whiteman (piano) Alex Coleman (bass) and Joel Haynes (drums).

The record swings hard and features many terrific original compositions from the members of the band.  Ryan Oliver's "Sheriff" is your First Listen on October 2.
