First Listen: John Ellis - Charm

New Orleans born, NYC-based tenor sax player John Ellis returns with a new recording called "Charm," the album features his band Double-Wide - Jason Marsalis on drums and sousaphonist Matt Perrine providing the New Orleans and Gary Versace and Alan Ferber on keys and trombone respectively, repping NYC, and that is great way to describe the CD.

The celebration of New Orleans and the grit of the Big Apple.  John is also a side-person with Dr. Lonnie Smith, John Patitucci and Charlie Hunter. The tune we’ll play is called Booker, is a tip of the musical cap to a New Orleans musician, James Booker—the man who Dr. John memorably called “the best black, gay, one-eyed junkie piano genius New Orleans has ever produced.”

"Charm" by John Ellis and Double-wide is your First Listen for September 3.
