First Listen: Wes Montgomery - In The Beginning

In the Beginning features never before heard recordings of Wes Montgomery spanning the years 1949 to 1958, the early years  when the six-string virtuoso was learning his craft in Southern Indiana.

The 26-track collection  released on Tuesday as two-CD or three-LP sets.  55-page booklet of liner notes with comments from legendary producer Quincy Jones, guitarist Pete Townshend of The Who and others, alongside rare never-before-published photos.

For your First Listen we have chosen Wes' take on A Night in Tunisia recorded at the Missile Lounge in Indianapolis on Nov.22 1958, brother Monk on Bass, Richie Crabtree and Paul Parker on piano and drums.

Thank you to all of you who contributed during our Early Spring Campaign.
