National Youth Jazz Combo
Presented in cooperation with MusicFest Canada
Open to high school students ages 14-18

High school students from across Canada audition for this outstanding combo directed by Juno award winning saxophonist Kirk MacDonald. The combo will first come together at MusicFest Canada Nationals in May, then again in June to participate in the TD Toronto Jazz Festival and one more time in July for the two week Summer Jazz Workshop for Youth.

2013 Artists-In-Residence:  NY’s Rich Perry (sax) and Ben Monder (gtr)

The Summer Jazz Workshop takes place at Humber College, in Toronto. The workshop is based on small group jazz performance and provides talented Canadian youth 14-18 with the opportunity to pursue advanced level performance training; to study under many of Canada’s finest professional jazz musicians; and to meet and work with other talented young musicians. Daily classes include combo rehearsals, master classes, clinics, composition classes and Guest Artists performances. Student combos perform at local events and record in Humber’s state-of-the-art recording studio. Audition required.
