River Phoenix's Final Film to Premiere in September

19 years after his death, actor River Phoenix's final film will finally see the light of day at the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht.

According to the festival's website, Dark Blood by director George Sluizer will premiere on September 27th. The nearly hour and a half long film was left unfinished until Sluizer's failing health prompted him to revisit the film which had completed roughly 80 percent of filming.

The two year process to complete post production finished in January of this year.

Dark blood is the story of Boy (played by Phoenix) who hermits himself in the desert after the death of his wife due to nuclear testing. While there he saves a stranded couple on their second honeymoon, and proceeds to hold them hostage, falling in love with the female lead (played by Judy Davis).

According to Sluizer's daughter, seeing as not all filming was completed, a "creative solution" had to be found to end the film, however not much more is being said.

Phoenix, a rising star at the time of his death, passed away in 1993 from drug-induced heart-failure outside of a Hollywood nightclub.
