Mary Alice Stuart Scholarship Won By Landen Vieira

On Tuesday June 26th, Al Stuart (Mary Alice's son, Board member and proprietor of The Pilot) presented the annual Mary Alice Stuart/JAZZ.FM91 Scholarship Award to Saxophonist Landen Vieira from the University of Toronto, at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival

Although only 20, Landen is incredibly accomplished, having studied the saxophone with some of the best saxophonists around, including Alex Dean, Kirk MacDonald, Tim Ries and Mike Murley. He has shared the stage with artists such as Robi Botos, Larnell Lewis, Pat Labarbera and Kelly Jefferson.

The Mary Alice Stuart/JAZZ.FM91 Scholarship Award was created to honour our Founding Chair, Mary Alice Stuart, who passed away last May.

In the early days of CJRT-FM, as the station was known from 1974 to 2001, Mary Alice was a dynamo of a leader and to her more than anyone else, lies the credit for our existence and success.
