Sound of Redemption: The Frank Morgan Project

Sound of Redemption: The Frank Morgan Project, a documentary about the late saxophonist is seeking funding through Kickstarter. The campaign, which ends later this week, is only $3000 short of reaching the $60,000 necessary to have the funds released.

The money they are raising will go towards finishing the film, the Kickstarter page says "While we have been able to keep our costs down so far, there is no way around the costs for color correction, sound mixing, and in particular, licensing fees, all of which are essential to finishing the film."

The film is executive produced by novelist Michael Connelly who was a friend of Morgan's. It is directed by N.C. Heikin and produced by James Egan.

Frank Morgan was once seen as an heir to Charlie parker, recording several bebop albums in the 50s. Heroin addiction landed him in prison. In the 60s he started a small ensemble at San Quentin prison with fellow addict Art Pepper, however Morgan did not record again until 1985, releasing the album Easy Living. He suffered a stroke in 1998, but recovered and put out additional records until his death in 2007.

The documentary will feature interviews with a number of notable jazz musicians including Ron Carter, Grace Kelly, Gerald Wilson and Delfeayo Marsalis.
