Sony Reissues Six Vintage CTI Jazz Titles

ImageIconic jazz label releases albums from Jim Hall, Ron Carter, Deodato, George Benson, Milt Jackson and Paul Desmond.

The iconic record label CTI, noted for its slick cover photography, gatefold albums and 70s sound, recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary. The label has long since left the control of its founder, Creed Taylor, and is now owned and managed by Sony, who kicked off the anniversary celebration in the fall of 2010 with the release of CTI: The Cool Revolution 4-CD box set and California Concert: The Hollywood Palladium 2-CD set. Now they’re getting down to the business of reissuing all those great albums from the storied catalogue.

The Benson album was perhaps his most popular for the CTI label, while Deodato’s Prelude included his hit single, an arrangement of Richard Strauss’s fanfare from Also Sprach Zarathustra, which of course was used as the main theme for Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
