    ARTS TORONTO July 2nd EDITION

This Sunday from 8-9am, it’s another edition of Arts Toronto with your host Mark Wigmore on Jazz FM 91

    This episode:

Toronto Drummer Larnell Lewis may have won three Grammys with jazz/funk/fusion supergroup Snarky Puppy, but the talented musician, composer and educator knows that is emerging in 2017 as a solo act. Mark Wigmore meets up with Larnell, Allison Au and Michael Davidson; the three finalists up for the 2017 Emerging Jazz Artist Award presented in cooperation between The Toronto Arts Foundation and The TD Toronto Jazz Festival.

And, the belles of the ball! David Hein and Irene Sankoff are the co-creators of the Canadian-gone-Broadway smash hit musical Come From Away. Mark meets up with the duo at The Elgin Theatre during the 2017 Dora Mavor Moore Awards to discuss the show’s victory lap in New York, it’s multiple Tony nominations and win, and the future of the show. Mark also catches up with Dora host Raoul Bhaneja and 2017 Dora winner for Best Actress in an Independent production, Nora Mclellan.

And Chilina Kennedy got her start at Stratford and Shaw, but lately you would be more likely to find her starring in big productions on Broadway. The Ontario musical theatre star has returned home to take on Beautiful The Carole King Musical at the Ed Mirvish Theatre. Mark met up with the star backstage to talk about her incredible rise through the theatre ranks, and why telling Carole King’s story is a lesson in musical artistry.
