Valentine's Day Was Tony Bennett Day in San Francisco

Tony Bennett may have left his heart in San Francisco but it is they who have given Tony their hearts. In a public ceremony yesterday San Francisco mayor Edward M. Lee declared Valentine's Day "Tony Bennett Day" in the city.
The honour was bestowed upon Bennett to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the tune "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" which Bennett first sang at the Fairmont Hotel's Venetian Room, Valentine's Day, 1962.

In addition to the ceremony at city hall, every San Francisco radio station played "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" at noon, the city's famed cable cars featured special decoration and City Hall was lit in Red.

Bennett, who won a Grammy this past week, was moved by the ceremony and surprised that the tune has been so far reaching, saying: "I always thought it would just be a local song, in this area."
