JAZZ.FM91 World Music Festival 2014

THANK YOU for being a part of JAZZ.FM91's 2nd Annual World Music Festival!

This five-part series took place August 5th - 9th at Hugh’s Room – one of Canada’s premier live music venues!  The World Music Festival showcasee incredible music from around the world with performances by an eclectic mix of international and local jazz artists.

Audiences experienced the sounds, rhythms, and worldbeats from international artists inspired from different areas of the globe in this five-night concert series.   Tickets the passport to hear music originating from South Africa, Turkey, Cuba and more.

FIRST STOP - THE REPUBLIC OF NIGER on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014

Abdoulaye Alhassane Touré
Performing with Mark Kelso, Artie Roth & Ernie Tollar

Multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, producer, once dubbed “The Quincy Jones of Saharan music”, Abdoulaye Alhassane Touré, will hit the stage with Canadian artists, Mark Kelso, Artie Roth & Ernie Tollar to bring you an evening of Saharan music, rich in rhythm with beautiful blue modes.


SECOND STOP WAS TURKEY on Wednesday, August 6th, 2014

Minor Empire

Performing with an 8-piece band

Award-winning dynamic octet, Minor Empire will take you on a musical journey, full of scenic sonic detours with a music style all of their own as a result of both a collision and confluence of Turkish and Western music.

THIRD STOP WAS SOUTH AFRICA on Thursday, August 7th, 2014

Lorraine Klaasen Tribute to Miriam Makeba

Performing with a 4-piece band

Lorraine Klaasen, has preserved the classic sound of Township Music, the most distinctive sound to come from South Africa. Lorraine and her band pay homage to Miriam Makeba with energetic and heartfelt renditions, including her own compositions inspired by the lady herself.

FOURTH STOP - EASTERN EUROPE on Friday, August 8th, 2014


Award-winning trumpeter and composer, David Buchbinder teams up with a group of phenomenal musicians that make up this funky, eclectic and versatile collective, with their repertoire hailing from the Middle East & Eastern Europe.

FIFTH STOP - CUBA on Saturday, August 9th, 2014

López Nussa Trio
Featuring brothers Harold López-Nussa and Ruy Adrián López-Nussa

All the way from Havana, brothers, Harold and Ruy Adrián López-Nussa, travel to Toronto to team up with bassist Roberto Riveron, bringing their love of the jazz continuum and Cuban roots together for an evening filled with soul.  The brothers’ Toronto debut was at JAZZ LIVES 2014.
