    ARTS TORONTO October 1st EDITION

This Sunday from 8-9 a.m., it’s another edition of Arts Toronto with your host Mark Wigmore on Jazz FM91

    This episode:

Director Guillermo del Toro's vision for fantasy and horror remains one of the most vivid and unique perspectives in modern cinema. From Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy to Crimson Peak andPacific Rim, his stories and creatures have found an audience of millions. The Art Gallery of Ontario has teamed up with the renowned filmmaker to present At Home with Monsters. The career-spanning showcase reveals del Toro's creative process through his personal collection of art, artefacts, books, props, and ephemera, all culled from Bleak House, del Toro’s creative haven located in Los Angeles. Mark Wigmore speaks with Guillermo del Toro at the AGO.

On Garvia Bailey's Giant Steps, a profile on Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers!

And, why endeavour to reimagine Hitchcock's 1959 cinematic classic North By Northwest on a live Mirvish stage? Mark Wigmore meets with lead actors Jonathan Watton and Olivia Fines at the Royal Alexandra Theatre to discuss this theatrical experiment.

And, in the wake of Hugh Hefner's passing, an encore presentation of Mark's interview with author Patty Farmer. Her book Playboy Swings: How Hugh Hefner and Playboy Changed the Face of Music takes a deep dive into Hef's relationship with Jazz. His Playboy Jazz clubs, Jazz Festival, Playboy produced jazz recordings, Television programs, and the wildly popular Playboy Jazz Poll, changed how the world perceived the genre.

All that, event updates, and beautiful jazz for a Sunday morning.
