Comprised of students from across Toronto and the surrounding region, the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band rehearses at the JAZZ.FM91 studios, under the musical direction of Jules Estrin. The group had their premier performance at the JAZZ LIVES 2008 concert on Thursday, May 8th at Convocation Hall at the University of Toronto. They also appeared at JAZZ LIVES 2009. Uniforms and instruments are provided, and participation of youth from marginalized areas is expressly encouraged. The JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band was developed to engage young musicians interested in jazz and allow them to develop their talent in a professional environment.
