JAZZ.FM91 is much more than a radio station. In addition to being Canada’s premier jazz radio station, JAZZ.FM91 is a listener-supported, registered charity. JAZZ.FM91 is committed to supporting the jazz community .

These are some of our community outreach projects:

  • TC3 Jazz Camp
    TC3 Jazz Camp
    JAZZ.FM91 works with educational institutions to provide striving young students with opportunities to gain experience in music and broadcasting. We also assist community groups such as the Regent Park School of Music and the TC3 Jazz Camp of Scarborough, and not for profit organizations that offer music instruction to youth from marginalized neighborhoods to help young children achieve their dreams of becoming musicians.
  • The JAZZ.FM91 Toronto Youth Big Band is currently in rehearsals. Students from across the city have come together at JAZZ.FM91 to rehearse with a renowned jazz educator, and perform throughout the year. Uniforms and instruments are provided, and participation of youth from marginalized areas is expressly encouraged.
  • The station broadcasts the finest jazz documentaries from the BBC, as well as producing our own on the jazz icons of Canada. This year, 10 new documentaries will feature Canadian jazz giants such as Jane Bunnett, Rob McConnell, Vic Vogel, Renee Rosnes, and Moe Koffman.
  • JAZZ 4 KIDS
    JAZZ 4 KIDS fan art!
    JAZZ.FM91 hosts the Jazz 4 Kids concert series where junior and middle school students are invited our studios for a free concert performance. Interactive, educational, and lots of fun! Teachers should contact community@jazz.fm for more information.
  • JAZZ.FM91 teamed up with Universal Verve and Alma Records to create Project Jazz, a nationwide competition to find the best of the best of music students. The winner,19 year old saxophonist Michael Ruby has just released his first CD under the mentorship of a renowned jazz educator and producer.
  • Canadian Jazz Archive Online The Canadian Jazz Archive Online features 30 years of streaming jazz concerts, plus photos, biographies, documentaries and chronologies of Canadian jazz. The site also offers educators curriculum-relevant teaching tools for classrooms, customized for grades 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12.
  • When Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, JAZZ.FM91 sent emergency relief funds to WWOC, the local public radio station to help the jazz musicians in their recovery efforts. JAZZ.FM91 was also the exclusive Canadian carrier of the Higher Ground hurricane relief benefit concert, which raised over 2 million dollars for victims of Katrina.
  • The Ken Page Memorial Trust encourages emerging jazz talent, assist professional jazz artists and supports jazz performances in Canada. JAZZ.FM91 is proud to provide funds and work in partnership with this organization to strengthen Canada's Jazz community now and in the future. JAZZ.FM91 has also provided funds to the Arche Alleyne Scholarship Fund and the Toronto Musicians Union's benevolent fund for musicians in dire circumstances.
