Jeremy Pelt

During the last five years, Jeremy Pelt has explored many post-war jazz trends, but for his HighNote debut recording he has settled into the acoustic, post-bop format with his regular band that includes the tenor sax of J.D. Allen with the rhythm section of Danny Grissett, piano, Dwayne Burno, bass and Gerald Cleaver, drums. One listen and it is easy to see why he was voted Rising Star on the Trumpet five years in a row by Downbeat and the Jazz Journalists Association.

Meaghan Smith - The Cricket's Orchestra

Meaghan's independent debut album Lost With Direction was released in 2005. Since then, the Halifax resident has toured with the likes of k.d.lang, Sarah McLachlan, Ron Sexsmith, Joe Purdy, and most recently Chantal Kreviazuk. During this time Meaghan has honed her writing skills in preparation for her new album The Cricket's Orchestra. 'I wanted the album to be an inspiring musical experience that makes you feel like you're leaving one world and entering another - a colorful, whimsical and imaginative place where you can reflect on your past and look forward to your future.

John Lamb - Conversations: North of the Border

"Jazz is a conversation Here we have five musicians one May day in Toronto having conversations with each other. This recording was done with no rehearsal and only a few charts. What you're hearing is mostly the first or second takes. This a rarity to hear 'live' undoctored music these days. And what a treat it is to hear bassist John Lamb in conversation with his Canadian friends north of the border." - from liner notes by Tim Elliott

Triodes - Chunked

Triodes is a genre-jumping instrumental group that traces it roots to the upbeat instrumental r&b, soul, and funk of groups such as Booker T and the MGs, The Meters, and Herbie Hancock's Headhunters, but with generous nods to early reggae and ska, modern jam bands, experimental rock, jazz, and electronica. Triodes features Michael Occhipinti (guitar), Paul Neufeld (keyboards), Roberto Occhipinti (bass/producer), and Doan Pham (drums), with guests Jeff Coffin (saxophonist with Bela Fleck and The Flecktones & The Dave Matthews Band), rapper PHATT al, and percussionist Luis Orbegoso.
